Exhibition Kuburaši-guardians of the tradition of shooting historical weapons
In the exhibition space of the Museum "Staro selo" Kumrovec from October 11, 2020, visitors to the museum can view the exhibition Kuburaši - preserve the traditions of shooting historical weapons, by Anita Paun-Gadža, senior curator of the museum "Staro selo" Kumrovec. Due to the current epidemiological situation, we start the exhibition without opening it.
The exhibition presents cubura societies from the area of Hrvatski Zagorje, known for nurturing the tradition of Easter shooting from holsters, pistols, and individual societies operating in other parts of the Republic of Croatia. In addition to the story of the history of shooting and the customs related to shooting, told on the panels, visitors can see the exhibited objects that Cuban societies use during events and various other events related to this segment of intangible cultural property. The custom of Easter shooting originally took root in the Pregrad region, which in the Middle Ages belonged to the Kostel manor. With the arrival of the Keglević family in 1523 in Hrvatsko Zagorje, the town of Kostel became the main center of the Keglević counts. In honor of Christ's resurrection, Petar Keglević sent an armed guard to the church of S. Mirka, where they spent the night from Holy Saturday on Easter guarding Jesus' tomb. On Sunday, after leaving the church, the soldiers shot from the holster and thus celebrated the joy of Jesus' resurrection.
After the departure of Keglević, the custom of Uskrenso shooting from the holster was eventually accepted by the inhabitants of Kostel at the time. Thanks to their persistence and successful overcoming of obstacles, the custom has been maintained to this day, and its role in preserving the tradition of Hrvatski Zagorje was also recognized by the Commission for Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of the Republic of Croatia, and in 2012 the custom was granted the property of intangible cultural property.
