ABOUT THE MUSEUM

Staro Selo ( The Old Village) Museum in Kumrovec is the biggest open-space in situ ethnographic museum in the Republic of Croatia, including 30 or so traditional housing and farm facilities from the late 19th and early 20th century. At the entrance to the Museum stands the farm of the Broz cooperative family, which includes the birth house of Josip Broz Tito and historic and ethnographic exhibits. The other traditional wooden and brick and stone houses (hiže mazanke and hiže zidanke) and the farm facilities house exhibits of traditional workshops – weaver's, blacksmith's, wainwright's, children's wooden toy maker's, potter's, gingerbread and mead maker's, potter's…) – and displays of late 19th and early 20th century customs of Hrvatsko Zagorje, such as those at a typical Zagorje wedding.
