Guest exhibition of the Museum "Staro selo" Sirogojno "Legacy for the future and revitalization of traditional skills"
On Saturday, September 16, 2023, the guest exhibition of the Old Village Open Air Museum "Sirogojno" "Legacy for the Future and Revitalization of Traditional Skills" by Snežana Tomić was opened on the premises of the Museum "Staro selo" Kumrovec.
The exhibition is dedicated to the bearers of traditional knowledge and skills from the Zlatibor district, but also beyond, who apply their skills in the manual production of traditional products still in demand today. Preserved skills are a "living" heritage, and as such are part of the intangible cultural heritage and represent cultural assets registered in the National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Serbia, while the skill of making pottery products on a hand wheel in the village of Zlakusa is included in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
Visitors to the exhibition were addressed with a few appropriate words by the head of the Museum "Staro selo" Kumrovec, Anita Paun Gadža, and then the inter-museum and international cooperation between the two open-air museums was presented by curator Tihana Kušenić. Mirela Hrovatin, senior advisor of the Department for Ethnographic and Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Media, pointed out that the opening of this exhibition is an opportunity to strengthen the projects of two museums as well as the exchange of experience of holders of intangible cultural heritage of two countries, which are important goals of the UNESCO Convention from 2003, whose 20th anniversary we celebrate this year. The author of the exhibition, Snežana Tomić, then briefly presented the exhibition opened by the head of Kumrovac, Robert Šplajt, to the audience.
The vocal group of the Josip Broz Elementary School participated in the opening program, and the opening was accompanied by the Božićnica Student Cooperative and presenters of traditional crafts in our region. Visitors could also see the production of Zlaku products on a hand potter's wheel performed by master Milojko Nikitović.
