On Saturday, June 15, 2024, the traditional event „Zagorska svadba“ will be held on the premises of the Museum „Staro selo“ Kumrovec, as part of which the exhibition „Kinč in folk customs “ by the author Božica Lacković opens at 3:30 p.m.

Božica Lacković is a self-taught artist who, with her first solo exhibition through crepe paper flowers and a selected ethnic collection, presents the heritage of her region and the whole of Zagorje. She learned the basics of making crepe paper flowers from her grandmother, and later recognized the importance of preserving tradition and began to deal with it. Multicolored crepe paper flowers of various flower shapes, such as spring flowers, lilies, ivancici, dandelions and the like, with the addition of a few leaves, were mostly made by women on the eve when all the work around the house was finished.

The art of making traditional Christmas jewelry-kinč is included in the Register of Cultural Properties of the Republic of Croatia as an intangible heritage. Although it is registered as an annual custom related to Christmas, the techniques of making flowers and jewelry from crepe paper are represented in many life and annual customs, especially during the wedding customs of northwestern Croatia, but also in the border areas with the Republic of Slovenia along the Sutla River valley. It is also a well-known fact that many women from Krapina and its surroundings went to Austria, where they attended manual work courses and encountered the skills of making this type of flower and, returning to their region, transferred the acquired knowledge and skills to young women.

The traditional custom of making kinch from crepe paper is presented by Božica Lacković in a new inventive way through a story from birth to death with an emphasis on celebrating the biggest holidays, Christmas and Easter. The exhibition will also exhibit bouquets, arrangements for visiting a newborn child, for communion or company, wedding decorations and kits for newlyweds, Easter kinch, traditional Christmas jewelry, and wreaths for a candlelight crucifix for the end of the life cycle.

In addition to the exhibition, a workshop „Wedding kinč“ will be organized, starting at 2:30 p.m.
