Do you know what the traditional wooden toys of Hrvatsko Zagorje look like? You have already met butterflies, wooden horses, carriage horses, sleighs... toys that can be seen in the permanent exhibition of the Museum "Staro selo" Kumrovec. Making of traditional children's wooden toys and folk instruments of Hrvatsko Zagorje.

This workshop introduces the way of making, painting and motifs of traditional children's wooden toys that are made in Croatian Zagorje. There is a special emphasis on the making of fučkaljki, matches that each participant of the workshop paints with traditional motifs and thus paints his own, unique toy. The emphasis of the workshop is on raising awareness of the fact that hand-made wooden toys have been unchanged for generations, and for this reason the art of making wooden toys in Hrvatski Zagorje is on the list of protected intangible cultural assets entered in the Register of Cultural Assets of the Republic of Croatia, and in 2009. The art of making traditional wooden children's toys is included in UNESCO's representative list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
