Winegrowers - lovers of good wine

On Saturday, November 5, 2022, in the Museum "Staro selo" Kumrovec. the exhibition Vinegrowers-lovers of a good wine, by Anita Paun Gadža, museum advisor, was opened. The exhibition presents viticulture as one of the most important economic branches of the traditional economy. In addition to producing wine for their own needs, they sold surplus crops to replace poor incomes. They consumed it during religious ceremonies, weddings and funerals, and annual cycles, the new year, carnivals, carnivals,.. The vineyard and wine had other roles. They used it as a medicine to relieve stomach problems, a preparation to strengthen the body, relieve pain,.. The continuity of vine cultivation is still present today, it is deeply woven into man, it lives alongside him. Wine has become an extremely valued economic product. Its quality and packaging form an important segment of the modern life of the winegrowers of Hrvatski Zagorje.

The author Anita Paun-Gadža spoke about the exhibition itself. Along with the author, the mayor of Kumrovec Municipality, Robert Šplajt, the director of the Museum of Croatian Zagorje, Jurica Sabol, and the prefect of Krapina-Zagorje County, Željko Kolar, addressed the audience.

After the opening of the exhibition, the upcoming feast of St. Martin, the patron saint of winemakers, wine, travelers, beggars, was celebrated in the area of the Museum "Staro selo" Kumrovec...Martinje is also the day when the wine-growing year ends, the autumn period warms and the cold November days begin. The celebration of Martinja in Kumrovac is part of the Zagorje tradition and culture that has been celebrated in this area for several years.
